Indications for use 
Ampicillin is used to treat patients with pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, lung abscesses, sore throat, peritonitis, cholecystitis, sepsis, intestinal infections, postoperative soft tissue infections and other infections caused by sensitive microorganisms. The drug is highly effective for infections of the urinary tract caused by E. coli, proteus, enterococci or mixed infection since it is excreted unchanged in the urine in high concentrations. In large quantities, ampicillin also enters bile. The drug is effective in treating gonorrhea.

Mode of application
Before the appointment of this drug, it is preferable to determine the sensitivity of the microflora to it, that caused the disease in this patient. Ampicillin is appointed inside, regardless of the intake of food. Single-dose for adults is 0.5 g, daily - 2-3 g. Children are prescribed at a rate of 100 mg/kg. The daily dose is divided into 4-6 receptions.

The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease and the effectiveness of therapy.

Contraindications
The drug is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to penicillin. When liver failure this drug is used under the control of liver function; in the case of bronchial asthma, hay fever and other allergic diseases it is used only in case of extreme necessity. Ampicillin enhances the effect of oral anticoagulants (drugs that are taken through the mouth to prevent blood clotting).
